This is the third or fourth blog I've begun on the internet. Currently, only two are still active, and I update them so infrequently they might as well cease to exist. Maybe this one will be different (don't hold your breath). I'm counting on you guys, assuming people will actually read this, to hold me to it. I can do it. I WILL UPDATE MY BLOGS. Yay for power statements. Ok, now for some actual content. Right now I'm at an incredibly interesting part of my life; I'm nearing college graduation and have, as my mother says, "my whole life ahead of me." Quite frankly, this is a horrifying statement. Starting freshman year of high school, students are pressured to choose a career path, choose a future, choose a college, choose a turkey vulture. There is so much emphasis placed on the idea that these decisions will affect the rest of one's life, and yet, so many times, this has a negative affect. I see it so often; students who are paralyzed by phobias and fears of failure instilled in them by their environment. Yes, guidance is needed, but for the love Pete, scaring everyone shitless is not going to help anything. I've been on the same career track since high school and have had multiple positive experiences and opportunities in that field, I still find myself in the middle of the "20-something identity crisis." A guess it's a right of passage, and I know I'm in much better shape than most of my peers, but I can't help worrying that my next step could be my unraveling. Oh, and it doesn’t help that my older sister is getting married this summer, and I’m already getting comments from relatives about how “I’m next” and asking me when I’m going to settle down. I even had one inquire as to when I’m going to start having children—I’m 22, not in a relationship, and still finishing my final year of college, WTF?!?!?!?! Okay, rant over.
